Texture From Nature

While you're out on your walk, be observant of textures that you see in nature.  We often use hand dyed fabric in our work and like to add layers of texture to the background and then focal screens on top of that.  Tree bark and other patterns from nature make great textured backgrounds.  Next time you see an interesting texture, take a photo and see how you can change it to a black and white image using software on your computer. We use Photoshop Elements but other programs can work to.  Consider turning your photo into a thermofax screen.

Here's a tree bark screen made from a photo that's available in our Etsy shop.
And here it is printed on a piece of fabric.
If you live anywhere near the Northern Virginia/Alexandria area, and want to learn more about converting a photo into an image suitable for a thermofax screen, we will be teaching Turn Your Photos into Thermofax Screens on June 6 at Artistic Artifacts.  Read more about the class here.
