Cherry Blossom Time

Sue and Elizabeth live near Washington DC where the city celebrates the coming of spring with The National Cherry Blossom Festival.  In 1912 Mayor of Tokyo, Japan gave the city a gift of 3000 cherry trees.  Ever since, the city has found enjoyment in celebrating their blossoms.  Most years, we visit the tidal basin by the Jefferson Memorial to photograph these beautiful blooms.  Cherry blossoms and other flowering trees are great subject matter for creating thermofax screens.
(This image is available as a screen in our Etsy shop here.)

Of course, you don’t have to wait to see the national blossoms to pick a beautiful flowering tree near you and practice photographing them with the purpose of turning them into a screen.
Here are some fun websites about the blossoms which also include more history on the trees and the festival.
