42nd Annual Quilters Unlimited Show

Quilters Unlimited of Northern Virginia presents an annual 3 day show featuring quilts by members of its 11 chapters, special exhibits, vendors, demos, and classes.  This year's challenge and theme was "Summertime Sun'.  Here are some scenes from the show as well as some of our favorite quilts.
Over 60 vendors participated in the vendor mall.
This is a group of challenge quilts from the Fairfax chapter in which 5 participants each interpreted a theme: love, trees, home, and color.
Above is Judy Biegbeder's (Springfield chapter) composition from the 2014 row by row shop hop.  She combined selected rows from shops in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware to celebrate the "seasons", last year's theme.
Sue Bynum of the Burke chapter created "Moon Dance" for Mary Kerr's Dare to Dance Challenge: A Quilter's Interpretation of Joy.  This is the first quilt Sue has had published in a book.  (Mary published a book of the quilts from this challenge.)
Connie T. Sherrill of the Vienna chapter created "Delirious" from a pattern by Karen Stone.  Click on the photo to see a closer view of the hand applique buttonhole stitch that adorns every design element of this quilt.  Gorgeous!
Martha Bush of Annandale created "Too Many Dots" - it is hand appliqued, hand pieced and hand quilted!  She thinks there are too many dots, but we think that is what makes this quilt special!
"SkateAway" was made by Jennifer Emry of McLean.  She says it is the result of a design exercise to use fabric scraps to make a visually exciting piece.  We think she succeeded!
Joan Oelschlager of Springfield created Urban Cabin, a pattern by Atkinson Designs, to practice modern machine quilting patterns.  See the close up photo below for a better look.
Upcoming posts will share photos of the "Inspired by the Beatles" challenge quilts, and a class on working in a series that Elizabeth took with Jane Davila.
